Fertile Hatching Eggs from Trader Joes!

Rather than order and ship hatching eggs or live birds to your neighborhood post office, try a trip to your local Trader Joes! If you are willing to set up an incubator, for about $3.00 you can get 12 potential baby chicks. Usually the eggs come from a local source of pastured poultry, which means there are roosters in the pen to warn hens about predators about. That means fertile eggs! I’ve seen people have better success with the large white free-range variety. The resulting chicks are a White Leghorn commercial hybrid that produce excellent laying hens. You will get easily 300+ eggs a year from them. Check out this Backyard Chickens member’s site for more info. http://hanburyhome.wordpress.com/2010/02/03/joey-the-trader-joes-chicken/
